Rest-Purr-Ant was my first ever group project designed for a second year module focusesd on introducing students to working in teams.
Due to how the teams were assigned some roles had to be filled by those who were not familiar / storng in the disipline. My role in this project was to be a programmer / UI designer.
At this point in my game dev journy my programming skills were weak however this project helped me start improving my programming skills and ingnited a passion for the disipline I would take on into all my future project.
This project had no brief so my team ahd full creative control over the project. The only limitation set on us was a 2 month time limit.
We decided to make an overcooked type cooking games with cats. Our original concept for the game ran into the classic issue of overscoping and this was realised through out development as we had to constantly cut intended features.
The gameplay loop ended up consiting of,
Player orders all stock (food) they want for that day
A customer walks in, sits down and orders
The player makes food
The food is served and the customer walks away
Food goes out of date and gets thrown away
As time went on more customers would arrive until the end of the day.
Within this project my role as programmer / UI designer consisted of:
Designing and coding the shop where players could buy produce at the start of the day
Designing and coding the achievements menu
Creating a unity tool to allow designers add achievements through unity inspector
Coded a clock to function based on the the ingame time to display time 'p
