Rat King was game 2 of a rapid team game jam university module. My role in this project was as a gameplay designer.
My teams objective this game jam was to work on our theoretical design skills.
The theme of this game jam was political play. Our brief required us to make a game to educate others about voting systems other than first past the post. My team settled on the alternative voting system also known as multiple round voting.
Alternative voting is a voting system which eliminates the candidates with the lowest amount of votes. Each round is conducted and everyone re-votes until one candidate reaches majority. For our game we condensed and customised the voting system to work better for a smaller number of people and shorter time spans.
Our game was an analog secret agenda game where players were given ratgendas at the start of the game and vote throughout the game for ratizens to represent the ratpublic. When a ratizen is elected it affects the national metric board. When the game ends beased on the national metric board and each players ratgendas points and winners are decided.
Within this project my role as gameplay designer consisted of:
Adapting a voting system to game mechanics
Designing card flavour text
Collaberting with the design of the national metrics board
Playtesting
