Light the Waves was made for my 3rd year university profesional project. My team worked alongside our industry clients: NearLight responding to their brief VR Hands Off. My role within my team was gameplay designer.
The objective of this project was to learn how to work in a team and with industry clients.
The brief was open to be interpreted as we wished, we decided to interpret it literatlly making a game that did not require hands. Our game ended up being a stationary VR game where the player plays as a lighthouse keeper using their cannon and hook hands to interact with the enviroment to guide ships through dangerous waters. Ships follow designated routes which monster tenticals spawn along, the player can use their cannon hand to clear the tenticals or use the lighthouse light to guide boats away from danger!
The game progresses using round based systems increasing difficulty every round from a tutorial round to a master level round.
Within this project my role as gameplay designer consisted of:
Design VR hand based movement controls
Design gameplay flow and pathfinding features.
QA testing with external participants to gauge the user experience of gameplay and mechanic design
QA testing to find and catalog bugs.
