Grenade Guy was a game developed for a gameplay and system balacing course. The objective of this module was to teach us to collect player data in a variety of ways, understand the information gathered and apply insights gathered this way to improve our projects.
I made a 2D side scroller game for this project which focused on using grenades as the primary mechanic for interaction building the game around this mechanic. Grenades were used for fighting enemeis, interacting with objects and movement.
Most of the testing, userfeed back and data collection were focused on making the main mechanic feel good to the player. Some key changes made based on feedback were UI elements being made more clear / added, multiple levels of feedback added relating to the grenade (sound, visual and audio) to improve accessablilty and understanding.
The methods of data collection used were:
Observation
Questionnaires
Unity Analytics
All inforamtion gained form these methodes were complied and sorted in Excel and stored in a secure location.
Within this project I did the following:
Developed a simple polished grenade mechanic designed to be easy to understand and satisfying to use based on user feedback
Created 2 levels with multiple puzzles and enemies to demonstrate the use of the grenade mechanic
Collected using user data using a variety of methodes
Itterated gameplay and balancing based off of userfeed back
