Pirate Hop was game 1 of a rapid team game jam university module. My role in this project was as the technical designer.
The objective of this game jam was to learn how to work as a team as this was our first project together.
The theme of this game jam was whale song park. Whale song park is an area near the water front of Dundee which has a 4 sided arcade like console. Our breif required us to develop a game to work on this console using its alternate controllers. To do this we had to use the Unity game engine.
Our concept was based on Frogger / Hoppy Road, where you played as a tiny pirate jumping across boats to get to the treasure on the other side and bring it back to base. The more treasure collected the greater the reward. We also wanted to make use of the "round" screen set up so we made it so our boats would go across all the players screens over time as they looped round.
We ideiated some extra mechanics to make use of the 3D screen to encorage team work such as a destrucitve wave that we were not able to impliment due to time.
Within this project my role as technical designer consisted of:
Ideation of game concept
Developing the character movement logic
Developing tile based logic
Implimentation of art assest
